Hi,

I have joined this forum as I have a problem with my Nissan 2023 Z
Bought second hand 8 weeks ago.
The steering is really light and "twitchy"
Becomes a job to keep in straight line from 100kph.
Side to side if any imperfections in bitumen
Changed tyres to Michelin pilot sports 5 , no improvement
Absolutely fkn scary at 200kmh , can feel it floating from side to side.
Dealer advises can't test at that speed.
Before you think "wanker" am 72yo , don't usually do that speed , but presumed I had bought a car that could if I wanted it to.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Could be something with the steering rack, but it sounds like a loose/damaged/broken suspension component(s). I'd seriously consider taking it to someone ASAP, as there's a possibility that it could cause you to lose complete control at speed.

Take it to a proper mechanic. Dealer mechanics are woeful and do their best to avoid solving any real issues. Sounds like a suspension issue to me but who knows. It's definitely not normal.

Mine is the same at lower speeds on our crap Aussie roads, really got to concentrate. Seems ok at 200k’s on the freeway ( I’m 69, l think if you don’t stretch a performance cars legs occasionally you’re just a poser IMO)

Twice , reading all of posted replies (with thanks) I will contact the RAA , local automotive group and take car to specialised mechanic.

Too much toe out. Cars like these can be “in spec” at the dealer and still have too much toe out. There’s a range of acceptable values and usually halfway between the halfway point of the range on the toe in side is where you want to be. Halfway in the toe out side of the range can be a mess.

I’ve had to address this with private shops on several brand new sports cars. I learned about it owning two identical cars that drove very differently, with the second one having too much toe out that the dealer said was fine, and print out confirmed. I told two different shops to put it halfway in the toe out range and it was perfect on two totally different make/model cars.

Cars that are strapped down on boats across the ocean and then on rails and trucks tend to have the issue more than domestic from my experience. I even had it on a 2021 4Runner shipped from Japan.

Toe alignment plays a huge role, especially with wide low profile tires. Be sure to compare the rear to front as there could be an unfavorable additive effect at their spec limits. Something else I'd check is the engine compartment under tray to make sure the air flow is smooth all the way back. I had a missing belly tray on another car make manual steering feel more like power at only 100 km/hr. Needless to say fast mountain driving was terrifying but oil filter access improved, LOL!
