Just did 3990km from home to Sydney with my mate Anthony Garner in what some would say is a ridiculous sports car but proved the perfect grand tourer for the job.
First day stayed at Madura in the middle of nowhere, characterised mostly by very bumpy roads.
The second day was only a short drive to Ceduna, with longest straight 146.6km on the way. Had a leisurely afternoon in Ceduna the head off just before 0200 to Daybreak Dugout in White Cliffs NSW, characterised by lots of quiet driving, no animals, little traffic and went through Horricks pass. Easy drive into White Cliffs of the main road, lovely smooth flat and wide road...note no animals. Stayed in the Dugout, was a great place to visit with awesome food.
The next morning we took off at 0500 and literally thousands of wallabies and goats. Wallabies are not clever about cars so I hit the brakes a lot, Ant got no sleep. We also had a bore charge at the car and a cow lying down on the side of the road. Didn't hit a thing, was like an xbox game swerving, braking and eyes peeled. Didn't get any better on the main road, we had a cat eating on road kill in the middle of the road. Later getting towards Lithgow we had a snake, turtle (which went straight under the car without touching). More traffic coming closer to Sydney. A race the dual cab utes down the blue mountains and fast motorways into Sydney safe and sound.
Z was amazing getting around 8L/100km...not that it mattered but helpful having a 650 to 700km range. So little wind noise, very comfortable; would do 5 hours in the pilot seat no problems. Great torque for overtaking and in most cases stayed in 6th gear. First day was 41 degrees Celsius out side and no temp problems with car, tyres got up 36psi at front and diff temp got to 108 degrees Celsius. Had a 20L fridge in the which was very handy for cold drinks. Brakes were very good at not hitting wildlife and despite a little body roll than my BRZ was stable swerving around wildlife.
