I had finished washing/drying my car and noticed the same thing on the hood and fender. The fender has a vertical line from the edge of the protective film. The hood looks like wripples that could be caused from yanking the protective film off.

At first, my eyes did a double take, and hoping its not scratches in the paint. I rubbed my finger over it, but didnt want to pick at it until I got my clay mitt. Just received it the other day and going to see if it takes it out. Most likely its going to need to be machine polished to remove everything and all imperfections on the paint. Then wax seal for that glossy wet look
So I found out that there was a bulliten from Nissan Canada stating that they are aware of this issue and it seems that certain ships coming over after April 23 have Airyias and Z cars with this issue ,my car was built in Oct/23.My Nissan dealer sent me the bulliten with the remedy on Monday morning. The say to to use rubbing compound followed by polishing compound and then top of with ceramic coating.I told the dealer I didn't want them doing the work and asked them to have one of the local detailing shops do it,they agreed to do that.I called the detailing shop yesterday and they said they would try the least aggressive method first ,maybe clay bar before anything else. They also said that they will have to ceramic coat the whole car even if only the hood or some other areas are involved.Nissan is paying for this .What color is your car?and what is your build date ,you may want to check with Nissan US for a similar bulliten.I told the dealer I would not commit to the car till I see it after going to the detailer.

Got my Bumper Bracket Recall done today, and since I was in there, I asked them to take a look at the hatch half unlock issue.

Good news: the service advisor experienced it on the first try (seems to rarely happen for intermittent problems at the dealer). They took a look at it and ended up adjusting the striker plate (and adding some silicone grease, it appears).

I've only opened it three times since it was adjusted, but so far, so good.

The hatch only popping and not lifting normal? Im used to having a hatch that opens up with a pop of the latch
It doesn't power lift, that's for sure. It's not an SUV, after all. The problem I had is that it wouldn't fully pop.

Expectation: pop, then human lift.

Actual: pop, try to human lift, find out it has only half popped and can't be lifted, be frustrated (@#$!) [1], pop again, then human lift.

In the half-popped state, it's neither closed nor open. No matter what, you have to pop it again, if only to close it properly.

1: FWP, I confess.

I didnt mean as a power lift lol

I can see the confusion since I asked in a way I shouldnt. My question wasnt related to your situation. It was a random thought why the hatch doesn't just lift.

Just thought about it. Could be the angle of the lid the gas struts cant lift it. Manually getting the lid to a point to allow the struts enough upright angle to lift the hatch on its own

No worries. According to one video on this thread, on the 370Z, there's a weight concealed beneath the trim. But probably even if you remove that weight, the gas struts might not have enough pressure to lift the hatch. You'd probably need some powered mechanism to overcome the hatch weight and allow the gas struts to succeed. You can kind of feel that point as you lift it, and you probably don't want to fight with the hatch trying to close it. On the way down, there's definitely a point at which gravity takes over and finishes closing the hatch. I guess it's a balancing act.

In any event, I'm just happy that now a single pop allows human lift...at least for now.

Update on this: problem still not solved. I still have the half-unlock problem, but maybe not as often as before. Coin trick is next.

This is an interesting issue. I've heard many people talk about it, and I actually experienced it myself early on in my ownership. What I started to do, is hold the button longer. I think early on, I only held the button for a second or two and tried to lift and it would "half unlock". Now what I do, is hold the button for about 3-4 seconds, and it never happens to me anymore.

Will this work for you? not sure, I may just have got a better latch and it maybe worse for others.. Best of luck to you.

Have this issue myself on my early model 2023, and just picked up my car on Friday where they fixed this, the bumper/headlight issue on the early cars, and replaced my shift knob that was peeling all over.

They weren’t sure about the trunk hatch, but replaced the trunk latch mechanism. I mentioned the trunk shock things, and the tech said if i continue to have the issue, the next step would be looking at/replacing the hatch pop/shock things.

So far over the weekend I haven’t had any issues with the hatch, so seems it may have worked! The car goes back to the dealer Thursday though to look at the bumper/headlight issue again (spacer didn’t help and the headlight is still making contact with the bumper), and I was finally able to replicate a rattle/crackle noise I’m heading near the drivers side door/pillar (doesn’t appear to be the traction button issue many others are having).

About a year ago, I had the Z into the dealer for normal service and the bumper bracket recall. I asked them to take a look at the hatch problem. They adjusted a few things and lubed the latch mechanism, which worked for a few days.

About six months ago, I had the car in again for normal service, and mentioned that the hatch was still misbehaving. They said I'd have needed to make a "diagnostic appointment" for them to look at it, or leave the car overnight. I declined, mainly because this is a minor annoyance and I don't want to be running around to the dealer every other day.

Last week, I made an appointment to have normal service and the bumper harness recall (which failed, but that's another story), and I included a diagnostic appointment to have them look at the hatch problem again. This time they spent about 10 minutes on it and ordered warranty replacement springs.

They installed the springs this week, and it's night and day. The thing actually works now. When you press the hatch button, the hatch pops up properly, and it doesn't stick anymore.

The hatch pops up a full inch. Previously it popped up only 3/8s or 1/2 an inch. It's visibly better and immediately noticable if your hatch is sticking.

I asked to keep the old springs, but I guess Nissan wants the old parts back for a warranty replacement.

Thanks for all the advice on this thread. I may still end up using the alternatives if this doesn't stay fixed.
