The manual says the weight limit is 460lbs for the car.

Does that include passengers? If myself and my passenger are at 360lb total, does that literally mean we can only have 100lbs of luggage, etc?

How much of a "buffer" is there on this limit and what is the real word result if you go over?

Reason I ask is we just made a Target run after a day date in the Z and put two 40lb bags of dog food in the hatch plus some other groceries like a case of protein shakes and some other stuff, and we would have been right at the 460lb with all that in the car. I did not notice any difference in how it handled and drove.

Just interested if anyone has hauled more than that on a road trip or anything. My wife can pack a mean carry on with some serious weight to it and we plan to do some road tripping this spring in the Z.

I’m not sure where they come up with 360lbs. Maybe that is strictly cargo.

Anyways, the real cargo/passenger weight limit is determined by taking the GVRW and subtracting the curb weight. That is the total passenger and cargo weight capacity of the car.
4211lbs (GVRW) - 3486 (Sport trim curb weight) = 725lbs passengers and cargo.

The Nismo is the heaviest version at 3704lbs. So that works out to
4122 - 3704 = 418lbs for cargo and passengers.

Specs here.

I would disregard the weight limit. There is literally no room in the new Z to actually cause an issue with people and cargo. BTW, that 460 pounds does mean people+cargo.
Unless you are carrying 10 cu ft of lead around with 2 morbidly obese people in the car, you don't run any risk of actually overloading the Z, and if there's an accident no one will come out with a scale checking everything in the car. Manufacturers are conservative on these numbers to cover their own donkeys.

On the other hand, I was watching a video about new trucks, and a new GMC half-ton with the diesel I-6 only has a 1048 pound capacity! Yeah, that's a high-$60K full size truck. 5 passenger capacity. I weigh 210, so 5 of me would be over the limit. That is not including the 5.5' bed with all kinds of room to put stuff in (did I mention the Z has almost no room in it anyways?) and a tow hitch that may have a load on it. I thought my Titan Pro-4x sucked at 1550 pounds! Speaking of Titans, Nissans and stated load capacity... My first Titan I owned 14 years and regularly pulled a 4K boat with a DRZ400 and Yamaha quad in the bed along with 3 people in the truck. Never wore out bearings, drove the same as if it were just me driving without the loads or passengers, and would pass Toyotas uphill in overdrive.

The Z can realistically survive more than 460 all day long. But, remember, as a corporate lawyer sees it...they have to take into account the lowest denominator driver. How fast can a Z go? Pretty darn fast, how hard can it corner? Pretty hard. A corporate lawyer can not sign off on a REALISTIC load rating taking into account morons who may load up 800 pounds into the car and then drive like a maniac, which the Z will do just fine. Trucks are different, the truck bed leaves a lot of room for people to overcook it, so we all get to see lower ratings than you would presume. I've had my newer Titan over 120 mph (Mexico, J/K, once I did that on an open highway just to see, I never exceed 85 99.9999999% of the time) and consider that the truck can go over 120 mph whilst carrying 1550 pounds....that's what the lawyers need to think about.
A Z going reasonable speeds can easily handle over 460, but you'll never get a lawyer in the USA to admit it.

One thing I forgot about, that is a counterpoint to what I said: check the load capacity of the tires on your car. Subtract that from your empty curb weight. That gives a better idea of the weight limit. We can talk about suspension, bearings, brakes role in cargo capacity, but those are generally items that will just wear out sooner if slightly overloaded.

The tires though, don't mess with exceeding their rating. It's what keeps you on the road, sudden failure could be very bad.

The stock potenza load rating is 1,565 lbs. per tire rack.

My buddy is 500lbs+ and wants to drive my Z. Thank yall for the NOPE
I'd be more worried about the seat getting ruined.

And have you ever seen an obese person cram themselves into a small car? Tears up the door panel and center console too, they put their weight on them getting in or out.

Painful to watch, even if you don't like the car

He took off on my last dual sport. Ran up first gear, chipped second on a money shift. Lawd knows what he would have done if we pressed him in the Z. Im glad you and I have determined we're just logistical a$$holes

This is the first time I have heard of a weight limit on a vehicle outside of towing situations. Is it just some meaningless recommendation for suspension longevity?

With my modded trunk capacity I'm sure I have gone over this "limit" and haven't noticed.

Dunno man, I just ran into it in the manual and thought it would make a good forum question on how people are using these cars in real life.

I always read owners manuals on anything I buy cover to cover, I'm weird like that.
