Since the car is aluminum, rust shouldn't be a major issue, correct?

Depends on the alloy. Most aluminum has a fine surface of oxidation to protect it. Don't know how that works with submersion.

I've owned a few boats, and the outdrives are aluminum, and they need zinc anodes to prevent galvanic corrosion, the zinc attracts the free electrons that are created when water moves over aluminum. If not for the zinc, the electrons will punch through the aluminum very quickly and with devastating results. Being that the NSX was in a river, it must have been exposed to some galvanic corrosion, perhaps.

Looks like a complete gut job. I imagined the only thing that is salvageable is the chassis and body panels
