UPDATE

Took it to the other Nissan dealership for servicing the turbos. They couldn't find an oil leak in the LH turbo, dry as a whistle. I guess after re-installing the oem stuff and taking off the oil catch did the trick.

My only guess as too why there was oil in the turbos (with smoke) to begin with is:

A) No backpressure from going full DP cat delete and 3 inch exhaust. May have been sucking the oil into the turbos
B) The oil catch isn't actually doing what its supposed too????? (which catching all that oil last time, made me believe it was doing its job)
C) there are gremlins in my car

Since Nissan couldn't find any issues, next plan of attack is to re-install everything minus the deleted DPs. I got a pair of AMS HFC Street DPs that I just ceramic coated and wrapped, crossing my fingers I don't see smoke. Oh yeah, and finally get that tune

So mine being in a RHD RZ34, the line from the (drivers) side valve cover that goes to the intake pipe before the turbo is not the culprit. I checked that side too, and it was dry and clean.

My passenger (your drivers) side is whats pooling right now.

I changed the exhaust and cats back to stock in preparation for Nissan service dept to check out drove it around for a few hours, then yesterday changed the intakes. Upon re-inspecting, it appears the pool of oil may have decreased in size. (sorry for the shitty pic, my phone camera wasn't having it)

So, im kinda stumped.

Today, I had the Nissan dealership do the 10000km service, asked them to check out the suspected turbo, asked to use 5w30 instead of the 0w20, and enquired about ordering Nismo parts. When I got the car back from them, lets just say, I wasn't enthused by their response.

First off. Apparently I can't order nismo parts for my car unless I have a Nismo Z...

Second. I don't think they checked the Turbo Inlet, and automatically put the blame on the Oil Catch can...

Third, I just had installed coilovers with all the supporting mods, got it aligned at ShockWorks, and barely drove it. Maybe 500km so far. But proceed to tell me that my tires are wearing fast, will need new tires and realignment, asap...

Kinda lost faith in the dealership/ service center i bought my Z from, tbh

Going to see if there is another service spot around Melbourne that can help me out
Which dealership are you talking about? I live in SE Melbourne.

I nearly bought a demo Proto from Seymour Nissan March last year but found one much closer. l deal with Mornington Nissan for parts, they always ask for my rego number l suppose to check what model l have, interesting that you can’t buy nizmo parts, l ordered a nismo red start button ( apparently they are on back order) but l was still able to order it.

I've tried to get the car tuned, but Nissan has locked the ROM for the new Z's
To clarify, you did full exhaust including cat-less (then catted) DPs, intake, catch-can & BOVs all without a tune?

The VR30 is stout but after my time in a Q60 RS (in addition to the Z I have now) I wouldn't fathom doing any of that without intimate tuning support and log review iterations on a part by part basis.

Exactly. Installing DP's without a tune and driving it like that is a big no. It is almost always causes overboost and premature wear on the turbos and possibly failure. You are lucky you didn't damage them. That was your issue from the start..

Driving was limited, if at all until I got the tune done. It wasn't until we had figured out that the ECU needed to be benched tune. Once I did get it tuned, then I started driving it consistently

I did all that in anticipation for a tune, the issues arose on the way there. It wasn't until I went for the tune the first time, and got blocked, I went back to OEM, and checked with nissan with what was going on.

When I went in the second time, I reinstalled all the parts just prior. Again blocked.

Didn't drive it until I got back from vacation, and finally got a proper bench tune

Trust me, I preach the importance of tuning with all these after market mods

Thank You!!!! I opened this thread to say just that... but what a horror story, sound like you found the problem. I wonder now after all this time if your "Check Engine Light" bulb is blown? Joking! Like his name says Staying_Tuned is the safe way to go.

No more issues.

The Z is a rocket, @425whp, with a conservative tune (19psi). I have the 2nd MAP as a Pops and Bangs tune, but I barely use it, as the Daily tune has enough of that already.

The last bits of mods I'm waiting on is the side skirts, wheels and tires

Thinking about getting the conceptz oil cooler later on, just before it gets hot here again

Glad to hear. You should be pushing more. I know a couple of people pushing over 500hp with just exhaust, downpipe, intake, heat exchanger and a tune.

I should, but again, conservative tune. I'd need more supporting mods to get to 500whp

Ie, upgraded fuel bits.

If I really wanted to get past the 500whp, I may just upgrade the turbos. Like the new vrx60
