OK, talk to me like I get coloring books for Christmas; I got notified for my Z about the recall. The dealership called me last week that the part is in.

I read all 3 pages. Using context, I THINK I have this 'feature" figured out;

Are you saying that there are sensors in the front of the Z that, if you hit a pedestrian or a Roadrunner, the hood "pops" up near my face? What does this accomplish? Allow the hood to then slide in to my A pillars and windshield?

Methinks that I'll do the add-a-resistor and not risk a hood surprise....

they pop up just a few inches to theoretically guide the person over your windshield. but the catch is these are super expensive to replace and can damage your car. the recall makes the system work better. right now sensor harness on the passenger side is upside down which could make them not deploy. I would never get this recall done as its voluntary

Was planning to take my Z in for service. Thought I might as well get the bumper harness recall taken care of. I know a lot of you don't like the hood poppers. I don't particularly like them either, but I thought I'd get it done anyway so the car is "clean" when I sell it someday. The conversation went like this:

Me: Yeah, I want to get my car serviced, and I think there's a recall.

Them: Oh yeah, I see the open recall. Let me schedule it for you.

Me: Do you have the parts?

Them: It says here we do, but let me call the parts department to verify.

[...music on hold...]

Them: They actually don't have the parts. They said the part has been on back order for two months. They don't know when they'll get it.

Me: Okay. Well I still want to get my car serviced.

...

Anyone else out there bump into a harness recall parts shortage?

Pretty sure the primary goal is to catapult the pedestrian or animal completely over the vehicle so the vehicle directly behind can humanely finish them off. If only one is working correctly they could be hurled off to one side into a ditch where they suffer. Or worse, rocketed into a crowded sidewalk. And no one wants that. Not even Nissan.

I was at my local dealership and asked service about it since I want the recall done. They said they just did one a few weeks ago.

Now Im going to call them and see what they say on the part situation

I did reach out to my dealership and they said they can have the part in a couple days. They are 2 weeks out on their schedule books tho

Not sure why a dealership here in Seattle can get them 🤷🏽‍♂️

IDK. I was there today for an oil change, and they're still trying to get info or parts availability.

Just had this done last week. They’re definitely isn’t a parts shortage on these harnesses. Your dealership must be doing something wrong or doesn’t want to do it lol.

Maybe it's a regional thing? I'll try again in 6 months.

So I’m literally sitting at the dealership going on two hours after they had it all day to install the harness. i came to pick it up and went to leave but the popped hood notification light is on and won’t go out. They’re completely clueless on what to do.
Sidenote, from what I can tell they only had to remove the cover plate over the oil drain and filter to install the harness. Nothing had to be taken apart whatsoever.
Think the recall harness are bad?

Lol things im afraid of. If it doesnt affect my car or drive ability in anyway i dont see any reason to do this recall.

Sensor isnt bad. It was installed incorrectly. Guess the only way to fix it is replace the harness

Its been mentioned they have to remove the front bumper. Did the techs not do that?

Youre not the 1st to mentioned the popped hood notification being on. They just forgot to plug the harness in

The recall says the wiring is reversed. I’m sure there’s a connector or connectors in the existing harness. If it’s as simple as it sounds they should put short male/female crossover connections where it’s reversed rather than dismantling the front clip of the car and replacing the whole harness. Maybe the root cause is more complicated than they’re describing.
