To clarify, enough noise for me would just be what we've seen of the auto in sport mode. I won't be modifying, so some decent sound stock would be preferable to a restricted exhaust setup.

I want to modify but I agree with the note. It’s perfect and not into these loud exhausts and pops. Outgrew the loud sounds. But I do want to hit 450-500 whp and I feel will need to change the exhaust. I hope I don’t have e to but time will tell.

Imagine if Nissan thought it would be a good idea for the manual transmission performance trim exhaust to be quieter than the automatic. I'm having too many of these "imagine if Nissan thought.." moments lately. I'm very concerned about this car.

Agreed. The stock exhaust is what I want in a daily as well, so nissan nailed it there for me. Get 450-500 whp should be fairly easy as the Q60 has been getting that with a tune and some bolt ons. The main problem will be traction at that point. The awd Q60 were able to put the extra power down without issue but the red my struggle. Will have to wait and see.

I'm willing to bet that 2023 is the last MY for the Q60, sales and the Z will basically "replace" it.

I'm also willing to bet that the Q50 is getting an extensive refresh, soon.
Considering there was just a significant update with the 400R launch in Japan, I see the Q50 being extended. It's a global car that still sells decently well. My long shot scenario is seeing Nissan fold the Infiniti brand into Nissan (since they can't figure out what direction they want to go... one day it's 100%, the next day it's "Nissan+"... they go through more CEOs and brand direction changes than the White House goes through PR personnel)... I can see Nissan dumping the current Maxima and bringing the Skyline 400R to the states, folding the QX80 into the Armada, dropping the turd QX50 (or using it to replace the Murano), doing something interesting with the QX60... etc.

I have said that if they ever put out a manual trans Q50/Q60, I would buy it over a new Z. However, that is unlikely. I haven't driven a 2018+ model car... I really hope they fixed the steering but I don't feel like they did.

I don't know anything about Q60 sales... it's a beautiful car... but I don't know.

I can't believe how many people in this thread are concerned about the exhaust note on this thing. Give me a break. You guys talking about how good the automatic trans car sounds from inside the cabin either missed or have forgotten that Nissan has employed Active Sound Enhancement technology into the Z since 2016. What you're hearing in this video is at least partially manufactured sound. The manual trans car in performance trim will have that, too.

Doesn't matter how badass the exhaust sounds on a C8 or a Supra... you can't buy one with three pedals. That is extremely difficult (or impossible!) to fix. On the flip side, it's really simple to put a high quality $1,500 catback exhaust on a $40k car if you think it's too docile. That's what enthusiasts have done for decades.

For those of you concerned that you're not going to be able to get 500hp out of the car without an outrageously loud exhaust... how many 500hp sports cars are there in existence that sound tranquil? Some of you guys are impossible. Go buy a Tesla. You can go to 60 in 3s in near silence so you can listen to your Tony Robbins audiobooks at a low-moderate volume if that tickles your pickle.

This sounds much less like nitpicks and more like hunting for excuses to discredit this car.

It's not just the ASE, it does sound a LOT better outside the car. However, like I said, for the price difference between an auto and manual you can throw on an exhaust and get all the sound you want.

The ability to adjust the exhaust sound on the fly, is there some kind of mechanical by-pass or adjusting baffles/iris in the Z exhaust system, to make that happen?

We went the cheapskate route on our BRZ. $250 cat-back exhaust with a restrictor at the end of each tail pipe. The restrictors can be manually removed with a couple bolts, for a hefty increase in sound.

Problem is, I'll get in the car, hit the start button and boom! ... because my son keeps removing the restrictors, lol.

Hey thanks for that info on Active Sound Enhancement. I had a 2014 so I didn't have it and didn't need it with the Stillen 3" intercoolers and Invidia Gemini catback. I'm going to get that function turned off at the dealer. Even Porsche is doing that. Can't stand it. Completely agree on prioritizing the manual over the exhaust. The latter is an easy fix. Get the car breathing from front to back and it will seem like a different animal. It will wake up the whole car.

Q50 is going to get a deep and extensive refresh, will it be a 400R or an "all new" Q50? - that I dunno. I do know the 9AT is going in it and it still has a VR30 and no - we won't get a stick.

Q60 as beautiful as it is, slow sales killed it.

Someone pointed out earlier that doing so will kill the effective Bose noise cancelling tech that helps diminish the Z's considerable road and tire noise, noise which is partly due to its open hatchback design.

That's all part of the charm, though.
