I guess it was more of a money thing that Nissan/Nismo pulled out of the American series. Although, after reading the statement by Flying Lizard, it sounded like the car wasn't going to be competitive after their winter testing. Not sure what to make of it.

It wasnt money nissan as role was just as support role on raceday. FLM was funded and ready to compete. I cant go further than what has been made public but the quote in the article about a specific safety concerns was the predominant factor that ended the season before it began. It was Flying Lizards decision and a tough one as it left everyone involved in a tough spot especially the drivers

Safety issues, that's a interesting one indeed. It looks like the cars are good to race in Japan at least.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Nissan’s GT300 and GT500 cars are carbon monocoque and the GT4 cars are production-frame-based. Even if that’s correct, not sure it had any affect on the decision by Nissan and/or FLM to withdraw, but it does mean the SuperGT and GT4 Z’s are completely different cars to run/support.

SuperGT have no real relationship to a production car. I think of it like japanese nascar where you are rooting for the badge on the car. I think they used to require the A pillar and roof of the production car but im not even sure if thats true anymore?

GT3 do start with the factory chassis but substantial changes can be made. A GT4 car is literally a body in white chassis with no real changes made just aero and specific set ups to the series it is in.

so yeah GT4 and SuperGT are extreme opposites. In Japan Nissan as 2 factory SuperGT teams then they have 2 other SuperGT teams they support and then a handful of leftover GT300 GTRs and then 2 GT4 Z customer racing teams. there are also a couple of 370z racing teams who also compete.

nothing with chassis or anything like that had to do with the cancelation of the GT4 Z program. There was just an specific issue that presented itself where the FLM drivers/team didnt feel comfortable continuing in the this year.

Not saying it was, no clue, but if it was related to safety issue that wouldn’t or couldn’t be resolved, I don’t blame the team one bit. Regardless of the team or manufacturer.

Pretty big clue GT300 isn’t production-based was the 5.4L V8 ā€Priusā€ a few years ago. But I was unsure if that was the same all The way down the paddock.
