First, HELL NO I’m not looking to sell my Z. It is ‘23 performance with 2,300 miles. I love my z and it really is my dream car. With that being said… this is my third black Z and with it being spring time right now , I really can’t stand all of the pollen on it 30 minutes after a wash. I always had my eyes on the gun metallic color but I just couldn’t do it.

So, today I get a phone call from the dealership I purchased my Z from. I can tell it’s a young salesman and he wants to do some work. He tells me he wants to buy my Z and put me in another car. I tell him the only thing I would consider is a gun metallic Z.

They have a ‘24 performance model. My Z is paid off and slightly modified. (Z1 bov conversion kit, wheels spacers, auto muffler, fairlady z badge, 10 year ceramic coating.)

Please chime in as to why I should make the move or not. What should I expect them to offer me and what should I expect for them to try to sell me the gun metallic Z.

just figured I’d start a convo with you guys !

Yeah, I think this is a balance of how much depreciation you're willing to eat and how badly you want the new one. Your existing car is paid off, and you sunk more money into the mods (that you might not get back), but in the end, it's your nickel.

Plus you'll probably see pollen on the Gun Metallic, too. Any Gun Metallic owners want to chime in?

Mmmmm, gun metal.

That’s all I got for you Mr. Alan

But seriously, I’ve had a black Z28 before, my one and only black car and I’ll never do it again. Gun Metal is a great choice and looks classy and high end while still being sporty enough.

I had 2 Black Type Rs, never again Black. Never clean.
I ordered a new Z in 2003 and made the mistake of ordering black. I even insisted that the car come right off the truck, and that I would pull the plastics and they would not wash it. It was my first and last black car, I have OCD, and I honestly could not stand all the swirls, and no matter what I did it didn't help. I have a gun metal 2024 Z, granted I have only had it a few months, but it's a happy medium, it does show some imperfections, but nothing like a black car.

The thing with black, it's a high maintenance *****. What I've done to keep the maintenance to the low is...

Full PPF wrap the Car with 3M
Add the extra protection with Ceramic Coating
After every wash, I used a Ceramic quick detailer, to get rid of residue
During the week I have the car under its designated cover
IF I left it out, I'd just simply grab a duster and swipe the dust collected over night

I've just started using gyeon Ceramic foam soap in my 2 bucket method. Probably the best investment ever. Lowest residue left behind, stopped using Ceramic detailer after this

Why I went with boulder grey. Black paint makes you paranoid. Looks amazing when pristine for 30 minutes.

Black cars always look amazing when clean the new Z is no exception. I have had a few black cars and never regretted it.

I would not do it. Z values are at an all time low. If they give you say 10-12k off the new Z just think what trade in value would be.
My Z Nismo is worth maybe 45-46k . A 2023 performance is deep into the 30s
lol the nismo's are in the mid 50ks (used) and the performances close to 50ks. Like as of now, a brand new 2025 performance will cost ya around 50k. At least in FL. Prices have gone up.

If the price works, go for it. Bring the car back to stock and install them on the new car.

How's the duster working out for you? I have the same issues. I had a black car before and swear I wouldn't get one again. But then... the Z came along and that's all my dealer had 😭
