..but wow, this feels like a slept on car.

I was in the market for a fun RWD (my first) car. I'll be moving to the west coast from the NE, and will be leaving my '24 WRX back in the NE for when I travel back. It felt like time to finally go RWD and find something fun since the west coast has so many awesome canyon roads. I was shopping for either an RF auto MX-5, or considering a GR86, and I was able to test drive a MX-5 after being set on it. There's nothing wrong with that car, but it didn't feel quite as special as I'd hoped, plus this is a car I'll have to drive cross-country, and the Miata seems rough at highway speeds (both road presence and ride comfort).

Within a few hundred miles of me the cheapest RF was $38k, which got me kicking the tires on other options, so out of the blue searched for Z's in my area, and was shocked at prices. I was used to them being marked up, back when I was cross shopping my M240i a few years ago. I was able to find a bare bones sport trim with the only option being the illuminated kick plates for just under $40k, and couldn't pass it up. I've had it a few weeks now, still halfway through the break-in period, and it's a blast!! My only complaint so far is that I have to change how I get in since the roof line is so low, but love it other than that.

I might upgrade the front sway bar, and I'm adding a spare tire sub in a few weeks, but for under 40k.... I cannot think of a better value right now in fun cars. Especially since you can probably find the performance trim for 44-45k (I was firm on my budget of sub 40k). I think Nissan royally botched the launch with the markups, but honestly that's really left an opportunity to have a fun car, that's affordable, that you rarely see on the road. Hiding in plain sight because of a poor marketing and sales stunt. After having an Audi S3, S6, RS5 an BMW M240i- this is a car I'm hoping I can keep til it's paid off and well after!

Also open to any QoL changes from people that have sport trims! I've never tracked my cars and don't plan to so won't be missing the LSD, but open to anything people have done that they think makes a difference! (well, other than a ceramic coat obviously since black is the most diva of all colors haha)

People are selling GR86s for $40k now. Great cars, I’ve owned two, but hilariously deficient compared to the Z.

Congrats your car. It’s a no-brainer now with these prices.

I agree with your sentiments, I have owned a couple dozen cars, and this is by far one of my favorites, the car has allot of personality.

100% agree with op. Best bang for the buck and it checks all the boxes - built in japan, 90% parts sourced in japan, RWD, double wishbone suspension, 6 speed manual, 2 seater, infotainment screen is not sitting on top of dash, good aftermarket support, open ecu / tunable, tilt steering wheel is adjustable up/down more than 2 inches , it looks good and it’s not a bmw Z4 with a toyota badge/name.

Man I thought I was the only one who is bugged by this.. Absolutely hate that trend, almost every new car is doing it too.. Lame.
itā€˜s a show stopper for me.

It looks like most cars have taken the high road and just slapped a screen on the dash, I wonder how many screens in minivans / typical grocery getter have been damaged. I predict that eventually most automakers will move the screens into the dash to improve visibility and to prevent damage.

I would like to add PHYSICAL buttons, knobs and switches to control the heat and AC as well as physical buttons for a lot of the infotainment center controls. I dislike touch screens in cars very much.

Love my Z and can’t wait for my next upgrade! 100% agree. And love the community. Most chill forum I’ve been a part of.
