Wife has just crossed 5k miles, changed oil and went to rotate tires...even pulled the left side to read the back of the rims. There is a A at the end of the part number on one and a B on the other. Both rims are 18x9. The front offset always looked less than the rear but I was optimistic telling myself "nah, they wouldn't have different front and rear wheels when the tires are the same size." Well, horrible memories surfaced as a teenage tire technician when Iroc Z's or GTA's came in the bay for a tire rotation; yep, dismount and remount/rebalance. I will not be doing this to my wife's car. I will begin searching for a pair of OEM rear takeoffs to put on the front.

I was kind of surprised to learn the sport has a square set up 245 all the way around

Yes, I agree; and then to have rims that are front/rear specific.

Yeah. I was surprised they made the offset different and only keeping the width and tire size the same

Right before I finished reading your post, I was going to offer you a trade my fronts for your rears 😜

So to confirm, you shouldn’t rotate the tires if you have a Sport trim?

Looked at the Owner’s manual and it says not to, so that answers the question.

So, the sport has different offsets between front and rear, but the performance DOESN'T?

the performance has different sizes front and rear, as well as different offsets. OEM tyres are 255 front and 275 rear.

Yup. Appears to be for all trims / models as it is in the manual because the rims are different all the way around.

Yea with that being the case I don’t see a benefit to keeping the stock tire sizes/square setup. I’ll probably copy the nismo tire size specs when it’s time to change the tires.

What is the benefit of having four of the same size tires but a different offset for the front / rear rims?

Wider / bigger rear for RWD cars is usually for more grip. Having smaller / skinnier up front is looks (if wheel is actually smaller), less expensive to replace, and less weight as it is not needed to have as big or wide of tires up front for the performance. In other words less resistance and surface area touching the road where it is not needed. I am sure there are more reasons I am not into tracking or anything though - but those are the basic reasons why RWD sports cars are like this.

Thanks. I understand the concept of wider rear tires for grip. I had a 1939 3/4-ton Chevy for over 20 years that had 14" racing slicks on the back when I bought it. It topped out at a whopping 50 mph in 4th gear but was a stump puller. After a few years, I opted to go with stock rims and 6" wide bias tires as I didn't buy it for hauling or pulling.

If I am reading the thread correctly, it sounds like I could put wider tires on the stock rear sport rims because of the larger offset if I wanted to?

The offset doesn't affect the width of tyres you can fit, thats a function of the wheel width. There is a smallish range of tyre widths that will fit, so you could still have wider tyres in the back if you want, up to a point. There are online calculators that will tell you what range of tyres are appropriate to fit to a particular wheel width.
