Hoping there's some peeps out here who have modded away this issue of mine - at about 2k RPM my Z seems to hum. Unfortunately this is exactly where 9th gear likes to sit when cruising at about 80 mph. The drone is lessened when I downshift into 8th @ about 2.7k, and completely gone in 7th over 3k. Just had an HSK cat back bolted on and it only exacerbates this drone. The dumps make the drone unbearable, and capping them off makes it about like stock, if not a little louder

Anyone have experience with downpipes changing this resonance or even removing it?

Try adding a resonator to your exhaust, that will help. I decided to go with AWE for this very reason as you get zero drone.

So, you can confirm that AWE touring doesn't have this 2k drone?

Yes 100% can confirm I have absolutely no drone, even with lower downpipes. I actually bought the touring to track conversion kit as well because i want to spice things up even more. I'll report back if I encounter any drone with the track version but the touring is amazing.

Is your car the AT model? I installed the z1 touring exhaust on my z and my god the drone at 2k rpm is unbearable, not just that but with the y-pipe my torque completely vanished. Will I encounter these problems with the AWE touring regarding the drone and the low end torque dip?

You can also look into those noise or drone cancelling mods for your exhaust.

I went with the AWE touring recommended here, and the drone is much more bearable. The rpm range where it happens has reduced and though I only measured a few dB of difference, it seems better than that in person. No performance loss.

Sounds good. So would you say that the difference in drone noise is worth getting the awe exhuast? Also are you experiencing a dip in low end torque stock tune considering the awe exhuast is 3 inches?

My original reply to you was an intent to answer these very questions...

Yes, I the drone reduction is worthwhile if stock exhaust bothers you. I notice it now only around 85mph cruise and it is bearable. With stock exhaust, 75-90 cruise was unbearable.

I have not noticed torque dip in daily driving. I'm not exactly racing this thing, so I might not even be in a position to notice, but there is the occasional red light pull to get in front of traffic. stock is 2.5 inches iirc, so AWE is bigger pipes.
