Suprised u went with mishomoto with all that cf
I considered the Z1 carbon fiber CAI but I did not like that they did not supply new MAF tubes, for the price those should be included and I also saw a few reviews saying drivers side fitment was an issue.

Plus I think that may have been CF overkill.

I chose Mishimoto because I like the top design with the bands for quickly being able to run open if wanted and quality reviews were top notch. I also found the build quality to be outstanding. I prefer an oiled filter as well and Z1s run a dry filter.

I did also like the AMS window tops but I liked the air box brackets better on Mishimoto.

Site says video is to large, I also have a PDF I made on install. If you DM me I can email. On FB group "The New Nissan Z" I have posted it there or DM me on FB it lets me attach to DM.

They are THE BEST. Tuners have confirmed they flow the most air. YOU HAVE TO GET tune, MAF can't handle. I have RAE 3" CAT Back and 3" LDP's shipping this week - then Sonictuned Sauce.

They make all the correct noises - you won't be jonesing BOV's. RAE (Morgan RAE) is great to deal with

These looks nice, how does heat soak play into this? I could see the pipes getting heated up and retaining the heat after a few laps at the track

What @JonnyG said on pg 1:

" Heat saok is not relevant on turbos - that air goes through the turbo then to inter coolers and heat exchangers. So don't worry - run them open - just FYI "

Hmm. Okay, so definitely okay for street use. Track use is entirely different with companies like AMS making larger intercoolers for each intake, a larger heat exchanger, and Z1 even making a true Air-to-Air system to combat heat for extended track use.

Great to hear it's not an issue for regular spirited driving or bagging it hard occasionally.

I missed this! Oh this makes me happy.

Heck I guess I could ditch the boxes completely then and make filter maintenance a heck of a lot easier too?

So now after trying to screw in the driver side intake which is even harder, my wrench slid down into the airbox above the grill. Tried a magnet stick and i had it a couple times but everytime i pull i think its on a really bad angle. Any suggestions other than jacking up the car and taking the plastic under shroud off?

I dropped mine on top of the shroud while working on the passenger side. Started banging on the shroud to bounce the ratchet to a place I could grab it.

There is definitely going to be heat soak, particularly with the charge air. The water intercoolers and heat exchanger temperatures will rise higher and quicker then usual, worse when you're in stop and go traffic.

Unless you upgrade them to larger ones, even then the open air intakes are more of a hinderance.

My tuner had a guy with boosted6 CAIs, and he mentioned the drastic difference between closed (ie AMS) and open. More so that after each dyno run, their would be a drastic heat spike

If you want performance and reliability, stick with the closed. If just want "sounds" go open.

Just not so - if we are speaking about intake air going into intercoolers they run through the turbo which is run by the exhaust which is at what temp. Charge air temps are dealt with air to air, air to water, ice boxes or like. With a Blower different story but turbos just not so

I mean.... I'd rather my air going into the intercoolers be cooler than not..there's a reason Z1 sells a coolant pump upgrade and and several places sell larger intercoolers

Agreed but that not is heat soak from an open intake. That is caused by pure engine heat soak. The heat exchangers are undersized for 1320 or road and for warm climates. I would go AMS or concept Z myself. Tuners like Sonictuned (my tuner) and Go Racebox are experimenting with systems now before opening motors up to see on stock blocks with injectors, HPLPFP's, injectors, ethanol how much they can get. Go Racebox is saying they just have a 740RWHP on stock motor. Sonictune is just about ready with icebox, and heat exchanger off a GT500 and more to go testing with his own car. Again, strickley speaking about open intake NO WORRIES about heat soak and you will love the noises - you'll forget about not having atmospheric BOV's

Interesting. I would've assumed the metal pipe would collect and transfer heat to the air. I'm not sure if that's on this thread or another one where someone had shorty metal intakes.

Does anyone have a sound clip of the open air intakes? My manual z is way too quiet from factory

Just tried to DM you but it said file too large. If you are on FB I can send to you and in "The New Nissan Z" group you can search and find clips or you tube
