I finally put a couple of thousand miles on my new Z Nismo, so it was time to take it to a track and enjoy it!
I took it to New York Safety Track, which is a very tight and technical course (originally designed for motorcycles). I really like that track (I've probably been there a dozen times in the past). The Z was a lot of fun and handled great. It was very neutral, communicative and balanced. Very easy to drive quickly. However, since it was the first day, I pretty much stayed at 8/10 because I wanted to be gentle on the car, as well as get used to the car. Additionally, I didn't have track insurance and didn't want to make a very expensive mistake, lol. I drove it in Sport + mode (auto) and put the traction control in "Traction" mode. I was running stock tire pressures, just as a starting point, and they seemed to wear appropriately, and not roll on the sidewall too much (almost perfectly to the arrow indicator), so I left the pressures at stock pressure all day and with the heat, they got up to about 38-39 PSI. I was consistently hitting 1.3 G's on the turns and 1G on the braking from speeds of about 115MPH, and the brakes held up fine.
Overall, I'm very impressed, but If I had to be critical of it and point out any negatives, I would have to say that it felt a little heavy. I think Nissan did a good job at masking the weight, but I still felt it and was bothered a little because I prefer lighter cars. If that car was about 500 - 700lbs lighter, it would be a truly amazing car. Other than that, I have zero complaints, and I think Nissan did an amazing job on this car, and I will probably enjoy it for a long time on and off track!

Here is a video of one lap, I took my friend around with me for a session. He loved it too (he drives a worked C5 Corvette Z06):

Nice little write up, and it looks like you had a blast! Thanks for sharing. Man…. If only they were 500lbs lighter 🤣. You’re so right!

Glad to see people finally getting on the track with their Z! Cant wait to see one at my local tracks. Really want to go for a ride so I can compare it to a Supra.

Next time you head up let me know. I go as far south as Buttonwillow. I used to live in Santa Monica and spent most my time at Willow Springs and Buttonwillow.

Also glad a couple are coming to tracks. Got to drive one on track and instruct one.
But that is the only one I have seen so far on track in 2 years here

Did you have any fuel cut issues when on track?

I didn't, but then again, I filled up during lunch so I never got below 1/2 tank (I think the reported issues happened with low fuel)

I took the car to Limerock recently, and sure enough, as soon as the fuel droped to about half, I experienced power loss at the same place on track. I thought that the first time was a freak thing so I ignored it, then it happened on the very next lap at the same place. I then realized that my fuel was at about 1/2 and I knew exactly what happened. I got off the track and topped off the fuel, and it immediately fixed. I guess when tracking this car, I have to make sure that I always have at least 1/2 tank of gas. As if the car isn't already too heavy!
I wonder if there is a fix for it other than that Z1 pump system? I don't want to do that because it can mess up the fuel gauge and give false readings.

Any aftermarket baffled fuel tanks for the Z? That's irritating and sucks to have to keep tank above 1/2 full.
