Bummer if Nissan goes under (I don't see it happening quickly if they do) but keeping the Z for a long time regardless of what happens.

We may all really own a real life šŸ¦„ Come next yearā€¦

even if Nissan turns it around there have been rumors for about a year the Z is on its way out for a few reasons. one is starting in July of 2026 in Japan you cannot sell a car over 71 db for noise regulations. this doesnt have a direct effect on the US market but would be harder to justify the Z just being sold in one market

This. I believe the news of Nissan's demise is premature. I as well plan my Z to be a "keeper" that my son gets at my demise.

If they manage to pull this off, this could be an opportunity to build the cars in the US to reduce tariffs, although that would also require that the suppliers follow suit. I hope this is not the end.

Nissan has come back from the brink before.

Honestly, every car company is 12-18 months away from bankruptcy-especially now.

There's gotta be ways around that.

Seems like the entire developed world is hell-bent on legislation for the sake of legislation.

They merged the merger threads!

I think they talked about the Z evolving to maybe be hybrid. I would be surprised if it's just gone after only a couple years of this gen, but what do I know.

Nissanā€™s leadership ran the company into the ground and they expect Honda to let them have a say in the future company. Yea, noā€¦. Honda dodged a bullet IMO.

There has been a lot of speculation that this was to be a shotgun wedding pushed by the Japanese government. Iā€™m guessing Honda said theyā€™d do it but only on their terms. Honda certainly doesnā€™t need Nissan.

The problem for Nissan is that for decades they've catered to poor credit customers.
So, no one aspires to own most of their product line.

Toyota and Honda get top dollar because they've curated that image. Even though I don't believe they deserve that reputation anymore, they still have it. Helps them command top dollar.

Honda certainly doesnā€™t need Nissan.
I would agree, but Honda certainly can utilize Nissan. The current Civic/CRV/Prelude/etc platform is a very good one, other than their steering gear debacles. The Prelude has the Type Rā€™s dual axis front suspension design. I think the Type R is going hybrid.

So two takeaways from that: 1) Nissan has better EV tech while Honda is using GM, and 2) Hondaā€™s main platform needs to be quickly on itā€™s way to EV as an end design milestone. Modifying/extrapolating-on Nissanā€™s EV tech would allow them to set that bar and move on. Start a rapid program to develop their safety suite across the board. Continue Z as gasoline sports car, maybe GTR revised and replacing NSX for now since it was a flop and going back to gasoline is not going to happen. Honda would instantly have good EV SUVs.

Iā€™m not sure if Honda will continue a gasoline Type R or not. Some speculate a hotter Prelude will be an Si and the CTR continues. I wonder if the next CTR will be hybrid. With Prelude getting its suspension design, I canā€™t imagine CTR as gasoline.

Anyway, Honda also doesnā€™t have a truck like the Frontier. I think people having trouble imagining this is good for Honda are wondering what the heck happens to Nissanā€™s car line. It probably dies other than halo sports cars.

Seems like it could be figured out, to me. It may cut more fat and profit potential than desired at first, but it can be made into an amazing pair of brands. Iā€™d love to see it actually, as a Honda and Nissan fan. I love both, but not a fan at all of Toyota. Wouldnā€™t want to see anything to do with them or Subaru. I like Subaru and mergers would kill Subaruā€™s character if you ask me. The boxer was absolutely the heart and soul of my ā€˜22 and ā€˜24 GR86ā€™s. That cannot go away and I bet it would if Subaru merged.

I digress. I just hope Nissan gets to keep its Japanese-version-of-a-muscle-car feel and sound. The CVT seems to be going away. One can only hope.
