Z nation….so I hit a pot hole 🕳 😬 in my brand new nismo earlier today and saw this part come flying out. Went back and retrieved it from the roadside.

Anyone know what this might be and if my suspension is compromised? Ride is no different just want to make sure! It may just be plane old road debris.

Many thanks!

Ok, I don't have a Z, but that almost looks like the part that used to be left on the Mk7 GTI.... It was called a shipping spacer. They put them on the suspension coils to stabilize the cars during shipping. People were complaining that they were being left in, the dealership PDI missed it. I wonder if Zs have them for shipping too?

I'm hanging out in California currently, I'm amazed by how bad the roads are here. I'm driving a Titan Pro-4x watching people driving around in fancy cars on the worst roads on the west coast.

Seen a Prius go airborne in front of me 2 days ago.

I feel bad for car enthusiasts living in areas like this.

Yes That is the shipping spring spacer that the dealer should have removed when taking delivery

Good news is they only need to remove the other side now...unless both fell out

Your NISMO has been riding too high since you got it because of this

Thank goodness. So does this require special tools for removal? Only one popped out and I’m definitely not going back over that mini sink hole with the other side 🤣

Need to jack the Z up uncompress the suspension. Probably can pull it out your self it's just wedged in there. Should be easy to spot

I hear a pot hole can be used for removal as well. 😉

JK. Congratulations on the new Z!

I wonder how many Nismo Zs are riding around with those spacers in? The car drives and rides like absolute trash with those in as the front feels very disconnected to the rear. I bet some owners traded their Nismo in because they didn't like the ride or handling character because of the spacers that they didn't even know existed.

Is it only the NISMO that ships with these? This subject seems to come up over and over with the NISMO, but I don't think I've heard about it with the Performance or Sport.

Yes, only the Nismo has these. Other manufacturers make them in an odd color like yellow or orange so its obvious that they don't belong there. On the Z they are black so most think they are a part of the suspension. When I was in the market for my Nismo every one I looked at ( including mine ) had the front high, so I assuming they all that the spacers left in. I drove home an hour and the second I got home jacked the car up and pulled them out, then immediately went out rippin the back roads. The car felt great.

Very possible.
Thankfully I was working with a better Nissan Dealership in my area and they removed them during the Delivery Inspection.

Is odd that they're black...

As others said, it's the shipping blocks on the springs. Just jack the car up and pull them out.

The one thing I wanted to add is that there are more than 1 block per spring. So, jack up the side that already came out as well as the other side, so you can look at the whole circumference of both front springs and remove any shipping blocks that are left on the car.
You will appreciate the ride/performance way better once they are removed. Another benefit is that the car looks so much better as well!
