So I have a deposit on a Yellow Performance Manual at MSRP just outside St. Louis. Thinking of flying out there and driving back to southern calfornia (1800 miles, 26 hour drive). This would obviously help me get through the 1200 mile break in period. Are there any other concerns you think I should have besides rock chips, weather, and dumbass drivers on a brand new car? Or would the smarter route be to just ship it back to California?

so ive already been through this dilemma and im about to go through it again

on my 2023 Z I bought it in OH and i live in NC. I paid a guy very good money to drop everything and drive up and get it enclosed transport because I wasnt familiar with the area and was worried about chips ect on the 8 hour drive back ( way shorter than what you are debating) so he picks the Z up and on the way to me the car shifts a little in the trailer and long story short I had to get a new side skirt day 1 of ownership. so I did shipping to be safer and then I had a small incident

now round 2 my NISMO will be coming into the heart of NYC and am once again weighing what to do. already got a quote of $1300 for closed transport. but im debating driving halfway up meeting and exchanging Zs with the sales manager. so we will see. there are variables either way

for your situation thats a very long trip and some people love doing it and make a life experience out of it. personally im not a road trip person at all.

Congratulations and good luck with the transaction and don't forget to post pix of the z.

about thr roadtrip, i would suggest making sure the hotel's parkings where you stay overnight are secured/gated if you decided to drive it home. I shipped instead of driving several days at daytime and still have to worry about the z at night, i didn't want to go thru the trouble of calling the hotels and decided to ship. Also my trip would have been a cross country, a little longer than yours.

That's a great point. I drove mine 5 hours from the dealer and ended up staying in a hotel about an hour from my house because I was exhausted. When I pulled in I had this holy shit moment that my brand new Z will now be sitting outside in the parking lot.

I just picked a spot right under a light and between 2 cars hoping no one would see mine lol. Ended up being fine but if you're staying a multiple hotels you'll definitely want to make sure they have non sketchy parking.

Do you like road trips? Some of my greatest memories are northern Maine to Road Atlanta and back with my 350Z.

I'd also vote for a road trip. I did this with an MSRP purchase in Globe, AZ. I spent the night at my sister's house in Chandler, and then drove back to San Diego the next day.

I'd also considered a car in North Platte, NE, but it was over MSRP (and took 3 additional months to sell). I would have driven home from there as well, but that was about my geographic limit.

I put about 500 miles on the car, and I pretty much had no choice but to do some freeway driving. Check out what the owner's manual says about the break-in period. I tried to heed the advice by exiting at random off ramps to avoid driving for long periods at a fixed speed, but I avoided the freeways when I could.

Otherwise, it was a lot of fun, but then I love road trips. My avatar is from that trip.

I road tripped mine back from Fla 550 miles to South Carolina. It took more than the 8 hrs I was planning, but only bc I was stopping every two hrs or so to stretch and take pictures of it. And, I can imagine there are some great spots to get pictures in that 1800 miles.

I did it with my brand new Audi Allroad MkI back in 2002. NH to Colorado. No problems, no knuckleheads, just a cop wondering why I had a NH temp plate on the car when I was in Kansas. It was a great trip. Did the break in on the way.

Trip it for sure! From BC, and recently found a Z for sale in Calgary. Couple weeks ago, did the first drive through Kamloops, bought it in Calgary, and holy shit. Enjoyed it the whole way back through Kelowna. Sucks that you “shouldn’t do long drives” for the first 2000km according to the owners manual……

I thought i remember you posting you may put it up for sale on the forum to see if any forum members wanted to buy it. Am I remembering wrong? that seems to happen at times. Mostly since I've gotten older. lol

Which dealer around St Louis is selling at MSRP? Thanks in advance.

Yeah I'm debating selling it and not trading I'm just trying to figure out what works best logistically and financial( tax savings with trading ect) I'd probably ask 54k private sale sell
