First Oil Change experience at Nissan

Bought my 2024 Nissan Z three weeks ago. It was a left over 2024 and was in the showroom for 300 days. I put 500 break in miles on it over the last few weeks, and I changed the oil today. I was not comfortable with one year old oil in the car.

I went to my local Nissan dealer, and they asked me if I wanted 0w20 or 5w30, which surprised me, given what I have read on this forum about dealers being resistant to use a different viscosity. So, they changed the oil with mobile 1 full synthetic 5w-30 and even had the larger GTR filter in stock and used that. They excepted my coupon, and I was in and out in one hour for $90 bucks. All in all, a very good experience, and I feel good knowing they used 5w30. I am not to hung up on the brand of oil, I don't anticipate putting more than 1-2k miles on it per year, since it's just a weekend toy for me. So, the oil get's changes annually, and I have normally always used Mobile 1, and never had any type of turbo or engine issues.

I think they are made in Mexico, not 100% sure.

Has there ever been any confirmation that the pressure differential across the GT-R filter is the same or less than our Z filter at the pressures our engine runs?

My understanding is the that bypass valve opens at a higher pressure, which is not really an issue, since I never go more than 1-2k miles on an oil change. This is a weekend toy, so the oil never really gets dirty, it just ages out. The reason I used that oil filter was so I could get a little more oil capacity, I live in South Florida, and it get's really hot here in the summer, so figured it couldnt hurt.

I’m all for using bigger filters. Done it several times. I’ve just become a major stickler on stock filter specs since a Mobil 1 filter issue on an F-150.

I doubt the info is available, even on Bitog they don’t get into that.

I wonder if the Z filter is allowed as a (even temporary) replacement on the GT-R by Nissan. That would answer the question pretty much.

The GTR runs a higher-pressure bypass valve in their filter, it's done for a few reasons. Since it's designed to be a track style car, they expect the car to run at constant high RPM which requires a higher bypass valve pressure to make sure no oil bypasses the filter. Also, the GTR runs a bit thicker oil, which under hard acceleration can cause resistant across the filter so they have a higher threshold for the bypass. Therefore, it would not be a good idea to put the Nissan Z filter on the GTR, as it would trigger the lower pressure bypass valve and oil would not be filtered. I don't see any downside to running the larger filter on the Z, especially if you run a bit thicker oil, this ensure the oil is constantly filtered. I used to own a GTR, and if I recall some companies even make a filter without a bypass valve, to ensure all oil flows through the filter.

The higher bypass pressure is plus and I plan on running 10-30w. i want the japan version - either z version or or gtr.

i have nippon filters for my g37, maybe they have a filter for the Z?
