I occasionally like to do oil changes myself. For my first Z33 I modified the tray so I didn't have to remove it entirely. I was thinking the Z1 undertray ("undershroud") for the RZ34 would be a nice addition to allow me and whoever changes the oil easier access. I just found out the tray on the NISMO is different than the Perf/Sport, and Z1's description of their undertray says "Does not fit NISMO bumpers." I've read here that the Sport/Perf undertray has a bend point so you can remove only the rear fasteners and fold it out of the way (the line right below the vents?). The images of the OEM NISMO tray on Z1's website doesn't look like this is possible.

Anyone have experience with the NISMO undertray and changing the oil?
Does anyone else make an undertray like Z1's for the NISMO?

Not to be nitpicking but is that aluminum Z1 shroud heavier than OEM?

I assume so, but probably not a lot.
I don't know the size/thickness of either, but...:

Weight per square foot:
1/16" AL: 0.78 lbs
3/32" AL: 1.17 lbs
1/8" AL: 1.56 lbs
------------
1/16" ABS: 0.335 lbs
3/32" ABS: 0.50 lbs
1/8: ABS: 0.67 lbs

In general, assuming the same thickness, standard 6061 aluminum is a tad more than twice the weight of ABS, but I assume the aluminum in Z1's undertray is probably a tad thinner on average than the average thickness of the OEM tray.

If I had to put money on it my guess is the OEM tray is about 4lbs and Z1's is 8-10lbs.

For the look and ease I can understand swapping for Z1.

I installed the Z1 undershroud on my Nismo. It mostly bolts up, two of the outer bolts on the piece that bolts to the bumper didn't line up, but no one can see it so I didn't really care. No one makes a Nismo undershroud to my knowledge.

I have the Z1 undershroud and with the "hand test" I could not feel much if any weight difference between the OEM plastic and the aluminum. Very unscientific I know.

Mishimoto also makes an aluminum under shroud that is all one piece and does not require any drilling, mounts up in all the same places as the stock one and has a service panel as well. Not sure about fitment on a Nismo.

I went with the Z1 because I like their service panel design better.

Beware of their "rivet tool", I could never get it to work so I just drilled out the holes a tiny bit and tapped in the rivets using a rubber mallet, that worked correctly and everything mounted up tight and secure.

The Nismo under shroud doesn't have a vent for the oil cooler?

Beware of their "rivet tool"...
We have a commercial rivet nut tool here at work, but no metric thread mandrels/inserts. Surprised they went with rivet nuts ("rivnuts"). The end product is great, but even with a good tool you can screw them up, and they're hell to remove if one is clinched incorrectly and is loose.

It's vented. Holes in the tray are much smaller on the NISMO.

I like the custom fab and look of the Z1, but I'm not a fan of the drilling and rivnut situation. I've only had it 2 weeks, so maybe that will change. Checked out the Mishimoto, like a modified OEM. I'm thinking I can fab a pretty slick hatch into mine like the Mishimoto.

I got this from Z1 last night:
"We do have customers that will alter our parts to fit their set up. We did not have a Nismo model to scan for fitment when they made that undershroud. We are working on new products now the Nismo undershroud will be made soon keep an eye on our social media for updates. Thanks for working with us here at Z1."

The rivnuts were not as scary as they seem. The problem was the instructions / lack of direction on how to properly use the tool. Even the video on how to install the undershroud from Z1 lacks any kind of detail. I was using the provided rivnut tool upside down. Once I realized that it was smooth sailing.

The drilling was no big deal, you are making holes that are not used just a very little bit bigger.

I get it though. There are better ways of doing it than rivnuts. In the end, it was actually very easy to install and it's awesome to have the service panel for those of us who do our own oil changes.

Worst thing to me about rivnuts is when you install them, they feel good, you install the fastener, then when you try to remove the fastener the rivnut spins...and sometimes you can't get to the back of the rivnut to clamp it while removing the fastener. So my advice with rivnuts is not to overtighten the fastener. Didn't know they were existing holes. That does make it a little less intrusive, but I still don't like the rivnut part. Got a pretty slick idea for making a removable service plate for my OEM tray. Would like to get it done before the first oil change. I'll post pics if I ever actually make it happen.

I tried it upside down, sideways, diagonal and right side up and could not figure the dang thing out. Rubber mallet to the rescue!!
