Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share my soundproofing journey with the community.

I’ve been measuring cabin noise in my 2023 Nissan Z Performance using my Apple Watch at around 60 mph. On smooth roads, it averages about 74 dB, but on rough surfaces it spikes to 82 dB — definitely too loud for my taste on longer drives.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the open cargo area creates a bit of an echo, which makes the road noise feel even worse. So, first week of May, I’m getting a professional to install two layers of deadening material on the doors, cargo space, and floor. Hoping to cut down the noise by at least 6-8 dB.

I also asked about ceramic window tint — I’d read that it might help reduce cabin noise — but the installer said it won’t make a noticeable difference in this case. Anyone here had a different experience with tint helping reduce noise?

I’ll share back with before/after measurements and impressions. Curious if anyone has done a similar upgrade — would love to hear your results or tips!

Thanks for sharing this idea. Sounds like it will work. What is the deadening material you’re using and how/where exactly are you installing it? Thanks.

Thank you all for your answers!
I’m not very handy, so I decided to have a professional handle it. I'm getting it done in White Plains, NY. When he checked the car, he noticed there was almost no soundproofing, especially in the trunk area, which could be causing an echo. I’ll ask him to take pictures during the process.

The total cost is $3,000 for two layers of sound-deadening material on the panels, floor, and trunk. He showed me the brand he’ll use, but I forgot the name. The work is scheduled for May 7, and he’ll keep the car for about 4 days.

I was also thinking about doing above the wheel wells (I’m not a native speaker, sorry if it’s unclear), but the guy said, “Hold on… let’s do this first—you’ll already notice a big difference. If needed, we can go further later,” :)

Me coming from a Volvo XC90PHEV 2023 what a weird benchmark .. 😂😂
Realistically gain 6-8db will be great

I wish I could hear the difference with just the trunk done. And not even done professionally. I spent 5-10 minutes on a GR86 trunk and it worked wonders, although the titanium Cobb exhaust was great the stock was way too quiet with the trunk done. I think most noise is being transmitted along surfaces, not straight through it. Any mat at all helps a lot.

Link to material and how many sheets or square footage do you need for trunk?
If you research it long enough, Kilmat on Amazon is a safe choice. That’s what I went with and it’s good and cheap.

Amazing ! Do you mind to measure the db on highway? Like at 60miles?
